Mindfulness techniques and attention training
In our current society we are often overwhelmed with stimuli that need to be processed as fast as possible. Our attention system is pushed to the limit and programmed to stay vigilant all the time. This is a huge energy consumer and puts a strain on our nervous system. With mindfulness techniques we train 2 skills: (1) We train our attention system not to be aware of all stimuli, but to focus only on one subject that we choose in the current moment, and (2) we learn to observe without adding an emotional judgement. The latter is actually responsible for high levels of stress that distract our attention system from our true goals.
